NEW MEXICO UNITED ANNOUNCES CINCO DE MAYO FESTIVITIES

Winner of The Voice Season 15 Chevel Shepherd to Sing National Anthem

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (April 29, 2019) New Mexico United has announced the professional soccer team’s Cinco de Mayo plans for match day festivities, in conjunction with the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce (AHCC).

Winner of The Voice Season 15 and Farmington-native, Chevel Shepherd, has signed on to sing the National Anthem for the match. Along with Shepherd, singer Jessica Renee Rojas will perform traditional Spanish-language songs on the soccer pitch to celebrate the holiday. Additionally, the AHCC plans to have a fan-festival with local musical acts during the hours prior to the match for tailgaters gearing up for the game. The fan festival will begin at 12 noon in the UNM Football Stadium East parking lot.

“Cinco De Mayo has a long-standing history of celebrating pride,” said New Mexico United Owner Peter Trevisani. “The New Mexico United game at Isotopes Park, starting at 5:05 PM, on 5/05 in the 505, is the perfect place to throw a fiesta for the entire state of New Mexico.”

New Mexico United will be giving away five thousand flags on a first-come, first served basis, featuring their shield as a special Calavera skull, designed by United fan and Curse NM supporters’ group member Amanda Telles (see photo below).

“We are excited to partner with New Mexico United to promote their Cinco de Mayo game and further enhance their relationship with the community in Albuquerque and New Mexico,” said AHCC President & CEO Ernie C’De Baca.

New Mexico United’s Cinco de Mayo match takes place on May 5, with doors opening at 3:30 pm and kickoff at 5:05 pm. Because there is a high likelihood that the match will sell out, the team suggests that fans arrive early to avoid long security and box office lines, as all must undergo a metal detector and wanding safety process before entering Isotopes Park.
