Path on the Pitch (UNM 1-3-0, 0-0-0)

A rain delay caused a later start for the match between the Oregon State University Beavers and the University of New Mexico Lobos. The Lobos have stayed consistent through each outing. On the night, The Lobos dominated the team sheet but managed to fall short on the pitch losing 1-0 at Paul Lorenz Field on Thursday evening.

The Lobos have lost three straight matches in the Pacific Northwest. Each match has been decided by one goal, two of which the Lobos did not break into the score line. The Lobos have allowed four goals. Oregon State was 3-0-0 going into the match, which is a slight contrast to their 2018 record going 2-17 overall and 1-10 in the PAC-12. The Beavers improved their overall record to 4-0-0 as they approach of conference play. The Lobos slide to 1-3-0 as they prepare to face Portland State on Sunday.

The Lobo women are putting in work match after match. Alesia Garcia and Gwen Maly lead all Lobos on this four-match road series with 6 shots each. Mackenna Havenor is the only Lobo to have 4 shots on goal through the series so far. Alexa Kirton has also taken 4 shots in the series. There are at least ten Lobos who have recorded a shot since they have left the UNM Soccer Complex.

In the last three matches, the Lobos have taken 30 shots of which 15 were on frame. So, they’re converting their chances to high percentage shots. The Lobos have been called offsides 5 times.

The Lobos have not had Alesia Garcia, Gwen Maly, and Leilani Baker in at once during the last matches. That trifecta may be a potent offensive threat waiting for conference play. The substitutions have been frequent keeping the roster fresh on the pitch.

New Pack Through the Last 3 Matches

  • Paris McKenzie – 11 min, 1 shot
  • Dani Mosher
  • Maysa Walters – 28 min, 1 shot (1)
  • Alix Hailey
  • Myah Isais
  • Juliana Kotsios
  • Alexis Christiansen
  • Allison Arend
  • Akane Takada – 12 min

Next Hunt (Portland State University 0-4-0, 0-0-0)

Portland State Vikings are hosting University of New Mexico on Sunday at Hillsboro Stadium. This will be the Lobos final match on the road for this first away series. Portland State is 0-2-0 at home, 0-4-0 overall losing their last match to UC Davis earlier today. The Vikings have only scored 2 goals through four matches and allowed 10 goals to be scored against them.

The Lobos have a real chance to steal a victory on the road before returning home to New Mexico. UC Davis took 23 shots with 11 being on frame. If the Lobos can play the ball onside and get in behind the defensive third, the Lobos will be able to utilize their high-powered attack strategy.
