Lobos host NAU at UNM Soccer Complex

New Mexico hoping today’s match promoting Childhood Cancer Awareness takes the win. While Lobos are happy to get on team sheet with the assist.

Today’s match between University of New Mexico(2-3-0) and Northern Arizona (2-2-1) is the Lobos’ only match in September at the UNM Soccer Complex. It’s special in that its also promoting Childhood Cancer Awareness. Both clubs will respectively wear gold tops (jerseys, warm up tops) in honor of today’s promotional campaign.

It’s the Lobos’ first match at home since their 1-0 win over then-ranked No. 22 Texas Tech back in late August. Since then, the Lobos went on a four-match road trip in the Pacific Northwest participating in a Pac 12 Invitational. The Lobos went 1-3-0 on that road series losing to University of Portland, University of Washington, and Oregon State. The lone victory was over 2-1 finish over Portland State. In this match, the Lobos fired off 21 shots with 6 being on target. Through four matches, 21 of 51 Lobos’ shots went on frame, which is 40 percent of shots being taken.

Alesia Garcia leads the Lobos in scoring with 2 goals. One of which, is the match-winning goal against Texas Tech. Leilani Baker and Jessie Hix each have 1 goal each. Jadyn Edwards leads the Lobos in assists with 2, while Jill Olguin has 1 assist. Goalkeepers Emily Johnson and Malia Vanisi combine for 16 saves on the season. Johnson has 7 saves and Vanisi has 9 saves.The Lobos have taken 62 shots through all five of their matches with 23 being on target.

NAU Lumberjacks

Paige Maling and Madison Montgomery lead the Lumberjacks in goals scored with 3 each. Amanda Bennett leads the club with 1 assist. Goalkeeper Taryn Benham has 17 saves on the season. The Lumberjacks have attempted 68 shots with 35 being on target.
